Dr. Jianqing Fan, Professor at Princeton University, today gave the first Murray/Ollivier address of 2016/2017 in Statistics at Mississippi State. His address discussed problems in analyzing "big data", a current topic that of practical interest to organizations ranging from small startups to Google.
Dr. Fan holds a named chair at Princeton, and among many other honors, holds the COPSS Presidents' award. The COPSS award is perhaps the most prestigious award in statistics, holding a similar position to the Fields medal in mathematics.
