Sonia Kovalevsky Trivia
Contest
|
There are two contests: a Problem Solving
Competition, and a Sonia Kovalevsky Trivia
Competition. Questions for both will be
posted from this site at 8:00 a.m. on March
1, 2005. Copies of questions will not be
mailed.
Rules for submitting entries to either
contest are as follows.
- The problem solving and trivia
competitions are not "team sports." In
other words, all work and any entry must be
done by a single person. Entries completed
by a group of students will not be accepted.
Treat this as an exam. If an entry can be
judged as "academically dishonst", it will
be disqualified from the contest.
- Contest participants are limited to high
school students 18 years or under, who will
be attending Sonia Kovalevsky High School
Mathematics Day at Mississippi State
University on April 22th, 2005.
- Only
one entry per student per contest. Once a
student has submitted an entry, no more
entries will be accepted from the same
student. Only the first entry from the
student will be considered the official
valid entry.
- Entries in the problem-solving
competition may be submitted electronically,
by FAX, or by mail. All electronic or FAXed
entries must be received no later than 5:00
p.m. on Friday, April 15th, 2005. Entries
submitted by mail must be postmarked by
Friday, April 8th, 2005. Persons entering
the problem-solving contest by mail should
contact one of the Event Organizors.
Contact information is given on the
Contact Us page of this web site
(link to the right). Entries lost in the
mail will not be the responsibility of the
Event Organizors or MSU. Therefore it is
recommended that photocopies of such entries
are made and a receipt for postage be
obtained from the local post office.
- All entries in the trivia contest must
be submitted electronically from this web
site.
- For both contests, first, second, and
third place winners will be determined by
entries having the highest percentage of
correct answers. In the event of a tie, the
tying entries will receive a place in the
order the entries were received with the
higher place going to the entry that arrived
earlier in the competition.
