Each student shall have a doctoral committee to guide his/her program of study. The committee will consist of at
least five graduate faculty members including a major professor and at least three other graduate faculty members
from the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, subject to the approval of the Graduate Coordinating Committee. Students are encouraged to choose their major professors early in their programs of study. The student
and the major professor will then select the other committee members subject to the approval of the Graduate
Coordinating Committee. The departmental Graduate Coordinator or his/her designate will serve as temporary
advisor for the student until the major professor is chosen.
The student and the doctoral committee will select the courses for the student's program of study with approval of
the Graduate Coordinating Committee. The doctoral committee will also monitor the student's progress.
