Welcome to the Department of Mathematics and
Statistics at Mississippi State University. The Department resides
within the College of Arts and Sciences and offers a number of customized degree programs. On
the undergraduate level, the Department has programs that lead to
B.A. and
B.S. degrees in
Mathematics and a B.S. degree
in Mathematics with Teaching Certification, while the graduate degree programs
lead to an M.S. in Mathematics, an M.S. in
Statistics, and a Ph.D. in
Mathematical Sciences.
The Department is committed to serving Mississippi State University in
all its needs as a Land-Grant Institution and strives to play a
leading role in the State of Mississippi and the Southeastern Region.
Our faculty is
actively involved in national, local, and university programs in the
areas of research, teaching, and service. Our research programs
support the on-going theoretical development of the mathematical
sciences and simulataneously promote the interdisciplinary use of
mathematics and statistics in science, engineering, and other fields.
Currently the Department has 24 graduate faculty with degrees from universities
throughout the world. Research is conducted in the following areas:
(i) applied
mathematics and differential equations, (ii) statistics, (iii)
functional
analysis and operator theory, and (iv) algebra, topology, graph
theory, and functional equations. The Department sponsors student
chapters of the national mathematics honor society Kappa Mu Epsilon (KME) and of the Mathematical Association of
America. This site will help you learn about the diverse
activities within the Department. Please feel free to contact us for
further information.
