This
summer REU
program will take place on the campus of
Mississippi State University during June 9-August 8, 2003.
It targets undergraduate US citizens or permanent residents
who will complete their sophomore or junior year by June 2003.
Students who have background in multivariable calculus,
ordinary differential equations, and linear algebra
prior to the start of the summer program
are eligible to apply. Women, students from underrepresented groups,
community college students, students from regions and institutions with
limited research opportunities are particularly encouraged to apply.
The participants are expected to
devote their time fully to this summer research
program, and they should not simultaneously
be engaged in any other academic coursework or in jobs
during the program.
The primary funding for our REU summer program comes from the
National Science Foundation (NSF). According to the
NSF eligibility criteria,
``undergraduate student participants supported with NSF funds in REU Site
projects must be
citizens or permanent residents of the United States or
its possessions. An undergraduate student is a student who is enrolled
in a degree program (part-time or full-time) leading to a baccalaureate or
associates degree. Students who are transferring from one institution to
another and are enrolled at neither institution during the intervening
summer may participate. High school graduates who have not yet
enrolled and students who have received their bachelor's degrees and
are no longer enrolled as undergraduates generally are not eligible.
For REU Site projects, a significant fraction of the student participants
should come from outside the host institution."
